Man Attempted To Kill Roommate In Southern Maryland: State Police (Developing)

Maryland State Police have apprehended a man who allegedly stabbed his roommate who had to be airlifted to an area hospital early on Monday morning for treatment of his injuries.

Lee Cook III, 26, is facing several charges for his alleged role in the near-fatal stabbing of 36-year-old Eric Steele early on Monday, July 17 in Southern Maryland.

Both men are Federalsburg residents in Caroline County.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Monday morning, troopers were called to the Liberty Road residence in Federalsburg that Cook and Steele shared together, where there was a report of trespassing.

Upon arrival, they found Steele suffering from multiple stab wounds, and he was airlifted by Maryland State Police to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

The investigation led troopers to Cook, who was found in the backyard of the residence and arrested without incident. Investigators noted that at the time, Cook and Steele lived in the same home. 

Cook was charged with: 

  • Second-degree attempted murder;
  • Two counts of first-degree assault;
  • Second-degree assault;
  • Reckless endangerment.

He is awaiting his initial court appearance at the Caroline County Detention Center.

Steele's condition was not available late on Monday afternoon.
